Photography has taken me around the world and back. To far-off places on the map and in my heart.
This collection of moments and people captured in Barbados with medium format film have moved me heart and soul. Moments that spoke to me. People that in passing caught my attention.
One of my dreams has always been to take photos for a travel magazine. Throughout my career I have not yet had that opportunity, so like I’ve done many times over, I decided to create the opportunity for myself. That is how Wanderlens was born. A fun creative project with my past travels told in magazine format, as if I had been hired to do so.
This specific story is a behind-the-scenes look at the people that make the rum. Hands on. The Bajan lifestyle that happens all around it. Wandering and exploring while capturing what I see. Telling a story through imagery. Shot entirely on medium format 120 film.
There is a particular kind of pride that lives in a person who has been doing the same skilled thing for a long time. You can see it in the hands. In how they move without looking. In how they talk about what they do the way other people talk about their families. I wanted to catch that. The distillery. The beaches. The life in between.
Medium format film slows you down in the best way. Each frame is a small decision. A small commitment. By the end I had something that felt less like a photo project and more like a conversation.
The digital magazine is available for $4.32. Prints are also available. [Shop here →]
My hope is that within these pages, your heart is engaged too, and that perhaps my passion project ignites your passion project.
